The county closed escrow on the balance of the county's acquisition of an additional 1344 acres on the mountain Friday, November 13, 2009. That, along with the previous purchase of 176 acres on Buckingham Peak, brings the total acquisition of the Fowler property to 1,520 acres.

Kim Clymire, Lake County Director of Public Services, has appointed a Master Management Plan Committee to work on developing the plan that will include types of use, flora and fauna identification, fire and emergency management plans, etc. The plan will be dictated by conditions of the purchase that include day use only (except by special permit), no motorized vehicles (except authorized), keeping the existing gate at the bottom of the hill locked and closed (except by permit), etc.

The park is tentatively scheduled for an official opening on May 1, 2010.
